UQM Technologies (UQM) is soaring over 50% today on no news, but StreetInsider.com is reporting that it might have something to do with speculation that Chrysler will be using a UQM product in one of its upcoming electric cars, scheduled to start shipping in two years. It’s a bit strange though because the Wall St journal reported yesterday that Chrysler is in advanced talks with A123 Systems, which is planning to IPO soon.

Check out this new initial public offering from First Wind Holdings Inc. First Wind has applied to take the ticker WNDY on the NASDAQ. As per the company name, the company is involved in wind energy.
For filing purposes it has listed the amount of $450 Million as the amount in shares that it intends to offer. Underwriters are listed as Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, and JPMorgan.

GT Solar (SOLR) may be great at getting solar manufacturers up and running but in terms of IPO timing it fails miserably. The stock debuted today and did price in the middle of the expected range at $16, raising $500 million, but did so at a time when solar stocks have been getting crushed. General Electric (GE) has added 3 new wind farms in upstate New York to its growing portfolio of renewable energy investments which are comprised mostly of wind projects and now total 4 billion (20% of the total). That represents a 33% increase in renewable energy investments from just 5 months ago and the company is predicting and the 50% increase by 2010.
