Xcel Energy just announced that it will convert its Bay Front Power Plant in Ashland, WI, to run completely off of biomass. Xcel Energy (XEL) And SunPower (SPWRA) Team Up To Build 17 MW PV Plant
Xcel Energy and SunPower are working together to build a 17 MW PV solar plant in Colorado. The plant is expected to be finished 2010, and will be the second-largest high-efficiency solar PV power plant in North America. SunPower’s Tracker system will be utilized to increase power generation from the plant.

Xcel Energy (XEL) Signs Deal With Microgy Inc
Xcel Energy just announced a new deal with Microgy, Inc that will allow Xcel to turn organic waste into methane to generate energy. The methane generation will take place near Xcel’s Fort St. Vrain Generating Station. A new methane plant will be built for this purpose, with construction slated to begin in 2010. Initially, the project will produce 915,000 MMBtu of methane, which is enough to power 17,000 homes per year.
