VeraSun Energy (VSE) Releases 2Q Results, profit up 58 percent

VeraSun released its second-quarter profit jumped 58 percent on higher production volume and an increase in average per-gallon prices.

Net income of $23.9 million, or 15 cents per share, for the second quarter of 2008 compared with $15.1 million, or 19 cents per share, on about half as many shares, for the second quarter of 2007.

Revenue increased sixfold to $1.02 billion from $170 million.  Analysts, on average, expected earnings of 2 cents per share on revenue of $924.8 million.
