STR Holdings (STRI) reported mixed results last night with an EPS number that beat analyst estimates at .21/share (analysts expected .19/share) despite a revenue number that was way below analyst estimates at $56 million (analysts expected $85 million). That’s a 21% decrease in revenue sequentially and 18% quarter over quarter.
PowerSecure International (POWR) is having a great morning gapping up off a bottom and up nearly 20% after the company reported results that were way ahead of analyst estimates with the company swinging back to a quarterly profit after posting breakeven results last quarter and a loss in the year ago quarter.
First Solar (FSLR) is up a bit in after hours trading after the company announced that it will hold off on commissioning its Vietnam plant until global demand improves. Instead they will continue developing their factory in Mesa, AZ in order to supply modules for the Agua Caliente, Desert Sunlight, Antelope Valley and Topaz projects.

It’s not getting any better for the solar industry in after hours action tonight. Big US solar manufacturer Sunpower is reporting less than stellar results as well in addition to an announcement of a Q4 reorganization that has the CFO saying adios. The company aims to cut costs by 10% next year.

Several weeks ago, Solyndra became the biggest blight of Obama’s green energy initiative not long after questions were raised about the cash dumped into Evergreen Solar which too ultimately failed, but it doesn’t and won’t end at solar. On Sunday night, Beacon Power (BCON), which makes flywheel technology to recycle unused power, filed for bankruptcy protection.

On Friday, shares of GT Advanced Technologies (GTAT) broke out of a multi-month downtrend with heavy volume after the company announced that it had landed a $47.7 million order for its polysilicon production equipment from a company in Saudi Arabia. Delivery of the order is expected to begin in the latter of half of next year and be completed by the end of the year.
China Sunergy (CSUN) is announcing some positive news this morning with a 23MW solar module supply deal with Germany’s SUNfarming Group. SUNfarming will use the modules in both rooftop and ground mounted system for both residential and commercial customers within Germany. All modules will be shipped this quarter.
