Several weeks ago, Solyndra became the biggest blight of Obama’s green energy initiative not long after questions were raised about the cash dumped into Evergreen Solar which too ultimately failed, but it doesn’t and won’t end at solar. On Sunday night, Beacon Power (BCON), which makes flywheel technology to recycle unused power, filed for bankruptcy protection.
Granted Beacon’s loan guarantee was less than a 1/10th of Solyndra’s at $43 million of which $39 million … Read the rest
Valence Technology (VLNC) could use some good news. It’s been trading under a buck now for nearly three months. It got some after the bell today with the announcement of a $13 million order from Smith Electric Vehicles for the U-Charge lithium phosphate energy storage solutions which will be used in Smith electric trucks through the end of the year. Smith is the nation’s top manufacturer of electric commercial trucks with its Newton line.

At a recent rally in New Hampshire, Barack Obama specifically mentioned LED lighting and described a company that could help to slash the cost of LED lighting. I did a little research and discovered the company he was referring to is privately held Arc Energy LLC of Nashua, NH. Its founder, Kedar Gupta is no stranger to cleantech success, having founded GT Solar (SOLR) with just $1000 and cashing out a few years ago.

A hat tip to Earth2Tech for laying out the components in the $410 omnibus bill that represent clean energy and climate change. Now that Congress has approved the economic stimulus package (aka the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act) with Obama expected to sign it into law on Tuesday I thought I’d give a run down of what’s in this bill related to green energy initiatives.

* $11 billion in spending and loan guarantees to build a “smart grid” to move … Read the rest

“We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our … Read the rest
With the Obama administration just weeks away from move in day, there are quite a few articles out there being written about ways to play the coming infrastructure and green energy boom. Much has been made of Obama’s plan to decrease our dependence on foreign oil and to a lesser degree, plans to spend big on infrastructure. Certainly infrastructure and green energy will be two big themes over the next 4 years and possibly beyond, … Read the rest

His top 3 are:
– both Presidential candidates are calling for the cap n trade system
– the Production Tax Credit (PTC) was extended (I’ll add to this – this is only a one year extension but an Obama victory would likely expand this kind of government subsidy for renewable … Read the rest
