GT Solar (SOLR) has announced some decent sized orders recently and today it announced another one. The company received a $24 million order from Trina Solar (TSL) for its DSS450HP crystalline ingot growth system allowing TSL to increase capacity next year.

Solar Production Leaders Q32010, JA Solar (JASO) Emerges
Here’s an interesting chart from PV Market Research highlighting the solar module and cell manufacturing leaders. Some interesting stats that stand out to me. Q-Cells has improved the most in the past year in terms of cell production and JA Solar (JASO) is really beginning to emerge as a world leader in solar cell production and for the first time is at the top.
Auriga Initiates Power One (PWER) With Buy, Sees As Solar Inverter Leader
Auriga initiated coverage of Power One (PWER) after the bell yesterday with a Buy rating and $14 price target. The firm sees PWER as a the leader in the solar inverter market with solid management and strong cash flow. While they see near term volatility as the industry shifts from Europe to the US and China, they expect volatility to subside in the 2nd half of next year.
JA Solar (JASO) To Expand Capacity 30%, Build Solar Facility In US
Bloomberg reported over the weekend that JA Solar plans to expand solar cell production capacity by at least 30% next year and is currently in negotiations to build a solar production facility in the US, joining other China manufacturers who have begun to produce here in the US (Trina Solar and Yingli if I’m not mistaken). SunEdison/MEMC (WFR) & Arizona Public Service Announce Plans For 10MW Solar Plant
SunEdison, a subsidiary of MEMC Electronic Materials (WFR), and Arizona Public Service have announced plans to build a 10MW utility scale solar plant located near the Prescott Regional Airport. SunEdison will own and operate the plant while APS will be purchasing the output which would meet the electricity needs of 2500 residents in the area. China Sunergy (CSUN) Agrees On 120MW Italian Supply Deal
China Sunergy (CSUN) has announced that it’s agreed on a supply deal with a leading Italian solar developer to supply 120MW of solar modules from now through Q3 2011. CSUN was able to secure the deal because of the acquisitions of Shanghai Solar Science & Technology and Nanjing New Energy which had a previous relationship with Ecoware.

SunEdison/MEMC (WFR) & Xcel Energy (XEL) Break Ground On 54MW In New Mexico Solar Projects
SunEdison, a subsidiary of MEMC Electronic Materials (WFR), and Xcel Energy (XEL) have broken ground on 54MW in solar projects in New Mexico. The project will cover five separate sites in two counties and are expected to be completed by the end of next year. SunEdison will build, finance and maintain the projects while Xcel Energy will ultimately purchase the electricity under a 20 year power services agreement. UBS maintains its Buy rating and increases the price target from $150 to $160. The firm increases its 2011 and 2012 EPS estimates from $8.80 and $9.50 to $9.15 and $10.00.
Needham & Company upgraded from Underperform to Hold but indicated the valuation remains rich and investors should focus on solar stocks with lower multiples such as JA Solar (JASO) or LDK Solar (LDK).
