Badger Meter (BMI) To Move Unskilled Work In Mexico

Badger Meter plans to move some of its unskilled positions from its plant in Brown Deer, WI to a new plant in Nogales, Mexico. The move will allow Badger Meter to reduce its labor costs. The company says some of its meters will still be produced in Wisconsin, and it wouldn’t comment on how exactly how many jobs will shifted from Wisconsin to Nogales.

In an article for the Milwaukee Business Journal, President and CEO Richard Meeusen defended the decision:

“We are going to be moving unskilled work down to Mexico and I’m not going to apologize for that,” Badger Meter chairman, president and chief executive officer Richard Meeusen said at the company’s annual meeting on April 24. “It’s the nature of our business and the nature of what’s happening in America.”
