Capstone Turbine (CPST) Sells C200 Microturbine To Shanghai Skyscraper

Capstone Turbine Corporation has sold a C200 Microturbine wind energy system to a Shanghai high-rise. The 14-story Shanghai Shenergy Energy Center will be the first building in Shanghai to use Capstone’s low emission, natural gas powered microturbine to produce clean energy.

In a company press release, Darren Jamison, Capstone President and Chief Executive Officer, commented on the sale:

Ener1 (HEV) Gets Upgrade to Buy From MDB Capital

MDB Capital came out today and upgraded Ener1 (HEV) with a Buy rating and a price target of $5.50.  They believe the shares are compelling down at these levels due to the pipeline of potential customers including the possible reemergence of Think Global later in the year.

Ener1 (HEV) Looks To Tap Into Smart Grid Biz, Hybrid Tanks

According to GreenTech, Ener1 (HEV) which currently manufacturers lithium ion batteries for electric cars is expanding into other markets such as utility grade storage and military applications.  The CEO said at the Jefferies Global Clean Technology conference that they are working with a few utilities on smaller power grid storage units.  On the military side, the company is working on hybrid tanks and unmanned aerial vehicles with potential orders of $7 million.… Read the rest

Canadian Solar (CSIQ) Reports Steep Loss, Stock Rises Anyway

Canadian Solar (CSIQ) reported a much larger loss then expected this morning, posting an EPS loss of 1.39/share after taking out one time costs.  Revenues took a plunge as well, dropping 43% over the year ago quarter to $73 million.

More bad news for ethanol…Aventine Renewable Energy Holdings, Inc, which produces ethanol from corn, just announced that it is having difficulty making payments to its creditors and that a Chapter 11 bankruptcy may be in the company’s near future, according to a story published by Reuters. ENN Solar Energy Co., Ltd just announced that through its partnership with Applied Materials it has produced China’s first 5.7 SQM Tandem Junction Solar Panels. The panels were manufactured at ENN’s Langfang, China facility using Applied Material’s SunFab™ Thin Film Line. The panels are almost 4 times larger than conventional panels and they have a higher conversion efficiency thanks to Applied Material’s tandem junction technology.

Advanced Battery Tech (ABAT) Misses Estimates: "Difficult to Match 08 Growth in 09"

Advanced Battery Tech (ABAT), which manufacturers lithium ion batteries for cell phones, computers and electric cars continues to report revenue and earnings growth in a tough environment but wasn’t able to match analyst expectations last quarter.  The company reported earnings of .06/share in the 4th quarter, missing estimates by .02/share on revenues of 10.7 million.  Revenues increased by 42% in 2008 over 07 levels, but that growth decelerated every quarter culminating in just 4% growth … Read the rest
