Ormat Technologies (ORA) today announced that its subsidiary, Puna Geothermal Venture completed the drilling and the mechanical cleaning of the production wells at the Puna Geothermal Power Plant located on the Big Island, Hawaii. The plant is now back at full production.

U.S. Geothermal (HTM) is making its way back to the buck level this morning on news it has been offered a conditional commitment for a $102.2 million loan guarantee from the Dept of Energy to help construct the 22MW geothermal plant at Neal Hot Springs in Eastern Oregon. The company already has a 25 year power purchase agreement in place for Neal Springs with Idaho Power which is Idaho’s largest utility.

Raser Technologies (RZ) announced this morning that it has begun drilling in New Mexico at the Lighting Dock project. The company is re-entering a well that was abandoned more than 25 years ago because the water wasn’t hot enough. New technologies allow geothermal energy companies to extract energy from lower temperatures, so the company is giving it another go. Ormat Tech (ORA), the geothermal giant, beat Wall ST estimates on both the EPS and revenue side this morning. The company reported an EPS 1 cent better than estimates at .04/share and revenues about $5 million higher than estimates at $82.7 million. While the company beat low expectations, that’s a big haircut on the EPS side from the year ago quarter when the company posted .28/share. Revenues declined about 20%.
