Sunpower (SPWRA) Lands Another Another Deal (20MW) With French Casino Group

Sunpower (SPWRA) landed another solar supply deal with the French retailer Casino Group today.  Last year, Sunpower signed a 14MW deal with the company and today it signed a 20MW deal which allows Casino group to install additional solar panels on the roof tops of its properties in France.  They will use Sunpower’s E19 series solar panels which provide efficiency up to 19%.

Sunpower (SPWRA) Announces World Record For Full Scale Solar Cell Efficiency At 24.2%

SunPower (SPWRA) announced it has broken the world record for full scale solar cell efficiency by producing a cell with a sunlight to electricity conversion of 24.2% at its plant in the Phillippines.  It’s been confirmed by the DOE.  Sunpower has increased efficiency by 4% over the past 5 years

LDK Solar (LDK) Lands 15MW Solar Supply Deal With Spain’s Gestamp Solar

LDK Solar (LDK) announced after the bell today that it has signed a contract to supply solar modules to Spain based Gestamp Asetym Solar. LDK Solar will provide 15.8MW of solar modules to Gestamp during the 3rd quarter.

Yingli Green Energy (YGE) Widens US Distribution With DC Power Deal

Yingli Green Energy (YGE) announced  its U.S. subsidiary, Yingli Green Energy Americas signed a solar module supply agreement with DC Power Systems through the end of this year. It’s one of the largest US agreements for Yingli this year, and represents the largest contract between the companies to date.  Yingli has been selling its solar panels to the US residential solar market through DC Power and other solar distributors and this widens that distribution.

Praxair (PX) Signs Industrial Gas Deal With Evergreen Solar (ESLR)

Praxair (PX) signed a multi-year with Evergreen Solar (ESLR) to supply bulk industrial gases for its solar wafer manufacturing facility in Wuhan, China. Praxair has been a supplier for ESLR’s US operations for several years and will now support their new China operations. 

Praxair is the largest industrial gas supplier to the solar industry and server more than 50 manufacturing facilities worldwide.

Ascent Solar (ASTI) Scores 3.8M Contract From DARPA

Ascent Solar just announced that it has been awarded  a multimillion dollar contract from DARPA under the Low-Cost Lightweight Portable Photovoltaics (PoP) solicitation. Under the contract, Ascent Solar will lead  project called “Flexible High-performance Tandem-junction PV Array” to develop cheap, lightweight PV systems that have a conversion efficiency of 20% or greater and are tough enough to stand up to military use.

SunEdison (WFR) To Build 2.1MW System For LaSalle In Ontario

SunEdison, a division on MEMC Electronic Materials,  just announced that it has been selected by LaSalle Investment Management to develop, finance, build, own, operate, monitor and maintain 2.1 MW worth of PV solar energy systems on LaSalle’s facilities.

The power produced by these systems will be bought by Ontario Power Authority under its feed-in-tariff program.  Meanwhile, LaSalle will get lease revenue out of the deal.

I’ve been saying for awhile now that Evergreen Solar (ESLR) is a good candidate for going out of business or being bought out at fire sale prices.  Nothing has changed.  The company still burns through cash and is months away from getting manufacturing operations going at full speed in China.  Time is running out and the first step to extinction is a delisting from the Nasdaq.

Huantai Silicon Ditching Suntech (STP) In Favor Of MEMC Electronic Materials For Glory Silicon Joint Venture

Pacific Epoch posted today that Huantai Silicon Science and Technology suspended its cooperation with Suntech Power (STP) in their Glory Silicon joint venture according to the 21st Century Business Herald which cited Huantai President Wang Lubao. Wang said the company plans to form a joint venture with MEMC Electronic Materials (WFR) to manufacture solar cells.
