Hybrid-Electric Motorcycle From Advanced Battery Tech (ABAT) Debuts

Last week it was the electric bus that debuted in California and this weekend 3 hybrid-electric motorcycles developed by Advanced Battery Tech (ABAT) and Wuxi Angell Autocycle make their debut at the Dealer Expo in Indianopolis.  The motorcycles are equipped with 48V lithium ion battery packs that are in use at low speeds but the bike kicks into the gasoline engine at higher speeds, recharging the battery as it does so.  The companies claim a 35% pollution reduction and 20% increase in fuel efficiency over standard motorcycles.

Mr. Zhiguo Fu, CEO of ABAT stated, ”We are very excited to showcase the three new motorcycle models at Dealer Expo 2009. This demonstrates our continued commitment to developing products that are able to compete globally and to capture the increasing demand for green vehicles. We expect the production version of the three models to go into full-scale production in April 2009 and will be sold under the co-brand of Angell and ABAT USA.”
