Quantum Fuel Systems (QTWW) announced today they are developing and shipping six Clandestine Extended Range Vehicle (CERV) for the US Army designed for quick special ops missions.  The vehicle uses Quantum’s Q-Force diesel hybrid electric powertrain system along with a weapons ring for greater fire power.  Along with greater fuel efficiency, the vehicle will be able to maintain speeds of 80mph and ascend 60% grades.  Is the bat mobile far off?

Alan Niedzwiecki, CEO of Quantum, said, “I am excited about our next generation diesel hybrid powertrain technologies and our new military special operations vehicle that is well-positioned to create another highly fuel-efficient and powerful platform that improves the military’s tactical capabilities. We believe that the CERV program offers innovative solutions to meet the mission of the national defense effort, while reducing the fuel logistic burden. We acknowledge the support from TARDEC National Automotive Center for the success of this program.”

Shares of QTWW are up about 6% and bouncing off the 50 day moving average on the news.
