Canadian Solar (CSIQ) Sets Up Research Facility in China

Canadian Solar (CSIQ) just announced that it will open a new research center in China. The opening of the center will mark the start of a 4 year research program, with the goal of raising solar cell conversion efficiencies and reducing production costs, to help solar power compete with conventional power. The company has arranged research partnerships with Dupont, the University of Toronto and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Suntech (STP), Swinburne University Team Up To Develop Next Generation Solar Cells

Suntech just announced a research partnership with Swinburne University in Australia. Suntech’s CEO, Dr. Zhengrong Shi, and Swinburne’s Centre for Micro-Photonics Director, Professor Min Gu, will work together to develop more efficient "next generation" solar cells. To fund the project, the University will contribute 43 million worth of funding and Suntech will contribute another $3 million.
