Ascent Solar announced that it has signed a cooperation agreement with Spain’s Texsa S.A. Under the terms of the agreement, the companies will work together to develop building integrated photovoltaic roofing products for the European solar market. The products will be based on Texsa’s existing line of roofing products and use Ascent Solar’s flexible, thin film photovoltaic solar modules. Ascent will provide Texsa with some of the product from its 1.5 MW production initially, and will provide more product Texsa over time as Texsa’s production capacity increases. Once products have been developed, demonstration projects are planned both to test the system’s real-world performance and to create excitement and demand for it.
Joseph McCabe, Ascent Solar’s Vice President of Business Development, commented on the deal, saying "
"Ascent Solar is pleased to be working with roofing innovators like Texsa. We believe Spain offers an attractive business environment for photovoltaic roofing, including a high level of incentives for distributed generation BIPV solutions."
