American Ecology (ECOL) Releases 3rd Quarter Results and Revises Guidance

American Ecology released its third quarter results today. Operating income was 6.8 million, an increase of 3% from last year. Revenue was $41.1 million, an increase of 4% from last year. Gross profit decreased 2%, from $10.2 million this time last year to $10 million this year. Exelon (EXC) Earnings Drop Due To Increased Expenses

Due to higher expenses, Exelon Energy’s third-quarter earnings have dropped from last year. The latest reports show income decreasing from 780 million, or $1.15 a share a year ago to $700 million, or $1.06 per share.  Although this was below analyst’s expectations of $1.13/share, the decrease was partially due to some one-time big ticket expenses. as BullishBankers.com notes below:

LDK Solar (LDK) Flush With Cash Despite Downturn

LDK Solar announced that it has no need to seek additional money from capital markets to fund the company’s expansion, as it already has enough cash on hand to more than double its production capacity. In 2009, the company plans to expand that capacity to 2.2 GW of power. In 2010, it will expand again, to 3.2 GW. Hoku Scientific (HOKU) Posts 3rd Quarter Results, Net Loss Increases

Hoku Scientific has posted its 3rd quarter financial results. Although revenue rose tremendously to $1.87 million,  but due to increased expenses,the company’s net loss actually increased slightly. This time last year, the company posted a loss of $1 million dollars, or 6 cents a share. This year, the figure has increased to $1.37 million, or 7 cents a share.

Casella Waste Systems (CWST) Opens 4.8MW Gas to Energy Facility

Casella Waste Systems (CWST) announced that operations are ahead of schedule  at its Clinton County  gas to energy plant, which is expected to produce 4.8MW of energy from landfill methane gas for the next 30 years.  That would be enough to power over 5000 homes each and every year.  In total, the company and its partners are producing about 25MW/hour of clean energy at five landfills

MEMC Electronics (WFR) Reports Better Than Expected Revenue, Sees Strong Solar Demand

MEMC Electronics (WFR) is up about 5% in after hours trading following a decent earnings report in which the company posted better than expected revenue numbers and minus a one time charge related to Lehman bonds, posted earnings in line with estimates at .88/share.

Xcel Energy (XEL) Earnings Fall, Missing Analysts’ Target

Xcel Energy posted its 3rd quarter results today. Although revenue rose to $2.85 billion from $2.4 billion, their 3rd quarter earnings fell 13% to $223 million dollars, or 51 cents a share. That’s a 13% drop from what the company was reporting at this time last year. Analysts had expected Xcel to post earnings of 61 cents a share, so the report was below expectations.

Converted Organics (COIN) Issues Dividend

Converted Organics announced yesterday that it would grant shareholders a dividend of 3 shares of common stock for each 20 shares of common stock. Dividends will be paid to all shareholders who have at least 20 shares of the stock on November 17, 2008 and will be paid December 1st, 2008.

NRG Energy’s (NRG) First Wind Farm Now Generating Power

The Sherbino I Wind Farm, a joint venture between NRG Energy and BP Alternative Energy, is now up and running. Located on top of a mesa in Pecos County, the wind farm consists of 50 Vesta wind turbines, and has a 150 MW capacity.
