NRG Energy just announced that it has signed a letter of intent to purchase the South Trent wind farm, a 101 MW wind farm located near Sweetwater, Texas. First Solar just announced that it has sold its Blythe, California plant to NRG Energy. The energy produced by the 21 MW plant, California’s first and largest utility-scale PV project, will be sold to Southern California Edison under a 20-year purchase agreement. NRG has started to evaluate two biomass crops, switchgrass and high-biomass sorghum at its Big Cajun II plant in Louisiana. The tests are part of an effort to reduce the plant’s carbon footprint by burning less coal.
