Itron (ITRI) & Cisco (CSCO) To Collaborate On Smart Grid Network Technology

Itron (ITRI) and Cisco (CSCO) have announced an alliance this morning to help advance the smart grid.  The two will work on developing a next generation, open and interoperable, highly secure, enterprise class IPv6 based smart grid network for utilities.  Itron will end up licensing and embed Cisco IP technology within its OpenWay smart grid meters as well as distribute Cisco networking equipment and software needed for full deployment of the smart grid.  Truly a … Read the rest

Kaufman Bros. has initiated overage of the big 3 LED stocks this morning according to Barrons.

Jefferies is out reiterating its Buy rating on shares of Yingli Green Energy (YGE) and has a $17 price target (more than 60% higher than current levels).  The firm views YGE as a top solar player.  Shares aren’t moving on the Buy reiteration in pre-market trading.

Energy Conversion Devices (ENER) Losses Continue, But Beats Estimates; Guides Below

Energy Conversion Devices (ENER) reported results this morning that were better than analyst expectations, but the company remains deep in the red.  The company reported a non GAAP EPS of .32 which excludes one time costs which compares to the analyst estimate of a .60/share loss.  Revenues beat as well coming in at $86.2 million vs the estimate of $72 million.  While that’s a 40% increase in revenue quarter over quarter, it’s a much steeper … Read the rest

Bank of America (BAC) is maintaining its Buy rating on Cree Inc (CREE) and increased 2012 EPS estimates to $3.21 per share.  Shares of CREE are holding the flat line today despite a healthy down day in the overall market.

According to the Boston Business Journal, EnerNOC (ENOC) is on the acquisition trail, looking to accelerate growth by buying small companies in the emerging clean energy space.  CEO Tim Healy acknowledged the industry is ripe for consolidation and that larger companies are looking to add to their alternative energy portfolios as well through acquisition.

Cree Inc (CREE) Achieves Breakthrough In Silicon Carbide Technology

Cree Inc (CREE) announced a big breakthrough this morning in the development of silicon carbide technology which is used in the production of a broad range of products including LEDs.  They have demonstrated the use of 150mm diameter substrates enabling further cost reduction and  greater throughput over the standard 100mm size.

Sunpower (SPWRA) Selected For At Least 20MW Of Govt Work

SunPower (SPWRA) has captured a key customer it was announced this morning – the US government.  They will be responsible for installations of solar power at the National Renewable Energy Lab, the General Services Administration as well as the Navy the and Air Force. The government contracts call for a minimum of 20MW in new solar projects.  No word on the financials of the deal.
