Xcel Energy (XEL) To Repower Colorado Coal Plants At A Cost Of $1.3B

Per Reuters, Xcel Energy announced yesterday that it is planning to invest $1.3B to repower and retrofit coal plants in Colorado, in order to comply with the state’s Clean Air Clean Jobs Act. The $1.3B investment is expected to be $225 million less than the cost of retrofitting all of its Colorado plants to comply.

Altairnano (ALTI) Announces New Application Kit For OEMs

Hoping to increase adoption of its lithium-titanate battery systems, Altairnano just announced the release of an application kit that will allow OEMs to test the product in simulated real-world operating conditions.

The application kit will consist of a 50 ampere-hour battery module, connection and control unit and a netbook computer for controlling and monitoring the system. It will allow OEMs to test a variety of voltage and amperage configurations.

Yingli Green Energy (YGE) Beats, Reaffirms Guidance

Yingli Green Energy (YGE) reported a Q2 non GAAP EPS of $0.21, 6 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.19 on revenue of $398.1 million, vs the estimate of $371.13 million.  That represents a 62% increase over the year ago EPS number and an 82% jump in revenue, so a real nice quarter from Yingli.  Gross margins reached a record high 33.5% in the quarter.

Barclays Upgrades ReneSola (SOL) & Trina Solar (TSL), Raises Price Targets

Barclays upgraded ReneSola (SOL) from Equalweight to Overweight and increased the price target from $10 – $12.
“Although SOL has been our near-term top pick since Mar ’10, uncertainty with respect to 2011 demand and weak execution track record were some of the factors restraining us from having a more constructive longer term outlook on the shares. We now expect wafer market fundamentals to remain relatively robust in 2011.”

Trina Solar (TSL) In 35MW Supply Deal With SunEdison

Duoyuan Global Water (DGW) Beats, But Quarter Over Quarter Profit Flat

Duoyuan Global Water (DGW) reported results this morning that beat analyst estimates, but the EPS remains flat over the year ago quarter.  The company reported a Q2 EPS of $0.46, 10 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.36 on revenue for the of $43.3 million, vs the estimate of $40.88 million.  The EPS number is a bit less than the year ago .47 number, but the revenue increased 38%.  So, while revenue growth remains … Read the rest

Suntech Power (STP) reported a Q2 non GAAP EPS of $0.03 (taking out provisions and restructuring charges related to thin film and Shunda, which is below the analyst estimate of $0.10 (correction – that is inline with analyst estimate of .03).
