Canadian Solar just announced that they have released their NewEdge solar panels in the US market. The panels are compatible with the new Zep roof-mounting System, and used together the products have the potential to reduce installation costs by half and reduce the amount of time spent to install the panels on a roof by 75%.

AES Solar, a JV between The AES Corporation and Riverstone Holdings LLC, just announced that it has closed on EUR173 million worth of financing for its planned Cellino San Marco project. The project will consist of a 43 MW solar PV plant in Italy’s Puglia region. SunPower just announced that it has signed an agreement with Sol.In.Build Srl, a subsidiary of Veronagest SpA, to build 7 solar plants in Sicily. No financial details were disclosed, but the 7 plants will provide 16.5 MW of capacity total. Individual plants will vary in size from one to 3.5 MW. All plants are expected to be up and running by September of this year.

LDK Solar (LDK) reported a non GAAP Q4 EPS of $0.03 which missed analyst estimates of $0.12 as margins took a hit. Revenues were a bit above estimates at $304 million. While that’s a big improvement over the year ago quarter when the company reported a whopping 2.05 loss, it wasn’t enough to keep traders from dumping the stock today.
ABB just announced that they have received a $30 million order from GA Solar for a 13 megawatt PV power plant in northern Spain. Under the terms of the agreement, ABB will handle the plant’s design, engineering, construction, civil works and commissioning.

Sunpower just announced that it has completed its acquisition of SunRay Renewable Energy, a solar power plant developer based in Europe with offices in the Middle East. The acquisition over 1,200 megawatts of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects to SunPower’s project pipeline. The projects are all in different stages of development and are located in Italy, France, Israel, Spain, the United Kingdom and Greece.
