Comverge just announced that its PowerPortal(R) in-home display has received Zigbee’s Smart Energy Certification. Comverge currently offers 2 other Zigbee-certified product: their Digital Control Unit and their Programmable Communication Thermostat. Zigbee’s Smart Energy Profile creates a wireless home area network that allows both customers and utilities to connect with smart appliances without installing broadband. Comverge’s Power Portal connects this technology to smart meters outside the home, bringing in important information about electricity prices as well as other information from the utility company.
In a press release, leaders from both companies commented on the news:
“We congratulate Comverge on earning ZigBee Smart Energy certification for the PowerPortal,” said Benno Ritter, vice president of marketing at the ZigBee Alliance. “Comverge’s growing portfolio of ZigBee Smart Energy products is indicative of both their leadership and innovation in energy management.”
“ZigBee provides the wireless technology that gets homeowners truly connected to the grid and the Comverge In-Home Display will help arm consumers with the information they need to better manage their energy usage,” said Interim President & CEO, Michael D. Picchi.
