Two heavy hitters are collaborating, bringing their smart grid technologies together to reduce the cost and complexity for utilities to deploy smart meters. Itron (ITRI) and Lockheed Martin (LMT) announced today that they will integrate Lockheed’s SEEload Demand Response Solution with Itron’s smart grid platform bringing together Itron’s smart grid expertise with Lockheed’s security, command and control and integration expertise.

Itron VP Philip Mezey commented: “Fostering the smart grid requires unprecedented collaboration. If there’s one thing that 30+ years of experience driving innovation for utilities has taught Itron, it’s that our complex industry is bigger than any one company. The importance of combining the complementary expertise of Itron and Lockheed Martin cannot be overstated.”

ITRI is up about 1% today and is on the verge of breaking out of a cup with handle base.  LMT is giving some back today after a torrid one month run.
