Xcel Energy just announced that it has closed on a Wind Project Purchase and Sale Agreement with enXco, an EDF Energies Nouvelles Company, for its forthcoming Nobles wind farm. The two companies have a history of working well together, having jointly developed 500 megawatts of wind power over the past few years.
The Minnesota wind farm will be made up of 134 GE 1.5MW turbines and will have a capacity of 200 MW when it becomes operational later on this year.
In a press release, Judy Poferl, president and CEO, Northern States Power Co.-Minnesota, an Xcel Energy company, commented on the news:
“Xcel Energy already is the nation’s No. 1 wind power provider, and the Nobles Wind Project advances our commitment to provide clean, renewable energy at a reasonable cost to our customers. We are pleased to move ahead on this project which will underscore our commitment to the communities we serve, increase our ownership of wind facilities, and help us meet aggressive renewable energy requirements.”
