Fuel Systems Solutions (FSYS) Diversifies With Purchase of Teleflex Power Systems Unit

Yesterday, Fuel Systems Solutions (FSYS) got a bit more diversified with the purchase of the Power Systems unit of Teleflex for $14.5 million which includes industrial and transportation alternative fuel components and systems and auxiliary power systems.  The deal is expected to close this quarter and begin contributing to earnings next year.

The Power Systems segment is comprised of 3 business units:

Idle Reduction & Power Management manufactures products to increase efficiency and reduce carbon emissions by reducing engine idling on large trucks and locomotives

Rail Solutions manufactures auxiliary power units (APUs) that are designed to help reduce locomotive diesel fuel consumption and help meet United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 0 limits for nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.

The Alternative Fuel Solutions unit offers state-of-the-art electronic fuel injection systems designed for a wide range of Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) applications.

“Fuel Systems has pursued its strategy of acquiring businesses and technology that enhances or extends its capabilities,” said Mariano Costamagna, chief executive officer of Fuel Systems Solutions. “Teleflex’s alternative fuel components and systems business unit complements our existing global transportation and industrial businesses. Its technology and engineering capabilities expand our existing platform. The auxiliary power systems business, anti-idling auxiliary power units that are used to generate power for operators of parked class-8 trucks and diesel locomotives, will broaden our target markets.”
