JA Solar (JASO) Gets Major Supply Deal With MEMC Electronic Materials (WFR)

JA Solar (JASO) announced this morning that it has won a solar supply agreement with MEMC Electronic Materials (WFR) that has JASO supplying them with high performance solar modules beginning in the third quarter of this year and running through 2012.  No word yet on how much will be supplied or the financials of the deal.

MEMC Electronic Materials (WFR) Announces Completion Of Solaicx Acquisition

MEMC Electronic Materials just announced that it has completed its acquisition of Solaicx. MEMC paid $66 million cash for the company, plus roughly $1o million to equal recent investments by Soaicx security holders.

Goldman Sachs (GS) Initiates Solar Coverage: Buy FSLR, Neutral SPWRA, Sell WFR

The big gorilla Goldman Sachs (GS) has finally begun covering the solar sector and initiated coverage of the US solar sector with a Neutral rating and initiated coverage on a few of the largest solar companies too.  Hat tip to Street Insider for the heads up on these ratings this morning.

SunEdison (WFR) To Build 2.1MW System For LaSalle In Ontario

SunEdison, a division on MEMC Electronic Materials,  just announced that it has been selected by LaSalle Investment Management to develop, finance, build, own, operate, monitor and maintain 2.1 MW worth of PV solar energy systems on LaSalle’s facilities.

The power produced by these systems will be bought by Ontario Power Authority under its feed-in-tariff program.  Meanwhile, LaSalle will get lease revenue out of the deal.

Huantai Silicon Ditching Suntech (STP) In Favor Of MEMC Electronic Materials For Glory Silicon Joint Venture

Pacific Epoch posted today that Huantai Silicon Science and Technology suspended its cooperation with Suntech Power (STP) in their Glory Silicon joint venture according to the 21st Century Business Herald which cited Huantai President Wang Lubao. Wang said the company plans to form a joint venture with MEMC Electronic Materials (WFR) to manufacture solar cells.

SunEdison (WFR) Purchases 2 of TransAlta’s Canadian Solar PV Projects

SunEdison, a subsidiary of MEMC Electronic Materials, just announced that it has purchased 2 solar PV projects from TransAlta. The projects are located in Ontario, and SunEdison will finance, build, own, operate, monitor and maintain them once they are completed.

The first site will be a 10-MW project under the Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program. The second will be part of Ontario’s Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) program.  The Ontario Power Authority will purchase power from both projects.… Read the rest

SunEdison (WFR) Begins Producing Solar Power At Staples’ (SPLS) La Mirada, CA Fulfillment Center

SunEdison just announced that it has begun producing power from its new 1.1 megawatt rooftop solar system at the Staples fulfillment center in La Mirada, California. This is the 32nd solar power system that Staples has hosted for SunEdison. Staples purchases the power produced by the systems.

SunEdison (WFR) Partnering With First Reserve In JV to Provide Funding For $1.5B Of Solar Projects

SunEdison, a division of MEMC Electronic Materials, just announced a new joint venture with First Reserve. The joint venture could provide funding for the acquisition of up to $1.5 billion in solar projects.

To start, SunEdison and First Reserve will contribute an initial equity commitment of 167 million. Combined with additional debt financing under consideration, this will fund the acquisition of $825 million of SunEdison’s solar assets. SunEdison (WFR) Leasing Space From Weingarten Realty Investors

SunEdison, a subsidiary of MEMC Electronic Materials, just announced a new agreement with Weingarten Realty Investors to lease space on their unused rooftops for up to 10 MW worth of PV solar installations. Weingarten Realty will then purchase the energy produced by the systems at below-retail rates, or will allow their tenants to do so.
