American Superconductor has signed a follow on order with Dongfang Turbine this morning and the companies will jointly design and develop 5MW wind turbines for the offshore wind power market.  Dongfang is a top China machinery company that entered the wind turbine market 5 years ago and is currently China’s 3rd largest wind turbine manufacturer.  Under a prior agreement with AMSC, the company will soon enter production of the 2.5MW turbine in the 2nd half of this year and this agreement sets the stage for 5MW turbines in 2012. 

Shares are up about 1% in early trading.
