Green Plains Renewable Energy (GPRE) To Begin Extracting Corn Oil At Ethanol Plants

Waste not, want not: Green Plains Renewable Energy just announced that they will begin extracting corn oil at its ethanol plants, a project the company expects to supplement its operating income with an additional $15 million to $19 million per year.  Green Plains expects to have the technology in place at all of its plants by the first quarter of next year.

SunPower (SPWRA) And Solar Ventures Announce 11.1 MW Italian Contract

SunPower and Solar Ventures just announced that they have signed a new contract to partner on the design and construction of 3 new solar power plants to be located in Italy’s Piedmont region. The plants will have a combined capacity of 11.1 MW.  The project is expected to be finished by the end of the year.

Daystar Technologies (DSTI) Looking At Offshore Solar Module Production

DayStar Technologies (DSTI) announced this morning it’s having trouble accessing capital to build and operate a facility in Newark, California so looking to manufacture its thin film CIGS solar modules offshore and have begun discussions with several potential partners.  The company is not ruling out an acquisition of Daystar.

Veeco Instruments (VECO) Ships LED Manufacturing Systems To Invenlux

Veeco Instruments (VECO) has shipped several TurboDisc MOCVD systems to US based LED manufacturer Invenlux in order to ramp capacity at their China LED factory in Haiyan City.  No word on the financials of the deal.

Florida Performing Arts Center Uses Nexxus Lighting (NEXS) Array LED Lamps

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Ft Lauderdale, FL has replaced all incandescent lighting with more energy efficient LED lighting using Nexxus Lighting Array LED lamps according to a press release today.  Array LED lamps are fully dimmable on most incandescent dimmer switches and provide up to 80% energy savings.

Applied Materials (AMAT) Exiting Thin Film Solar Biz To Focus On Silcon Solar, LED Lighting

Energy Conversion Devices (ENER) Lands 3.9MW Rooftop Solar Deal

Energy Conversion Devices (ENER) subsidiary United Solar has signed a 3.9MW deal to supply solar laminates to New Jersey Resources Clean Energy Ventures & Adler Development.  Adler Development will lease 900K of roof space to NJRCEV for 20 years allowing tenants a power purchase agreement from NJRCEV.  The project has already begun with work started on four Adler buildings in New Jersey.

Green Plains Renewable Energy (GRPE) Begins Second Phase Of Algae Project

Green Plains Renewable Energy just announced that it will break ground on the second phase of its Grower Harvester (TM) algae project within the next two weeks. During Phase II, Green Plains Renewable Energy, working in conjunction with BioProcess Algae LLC, its partner in the Grower Harvester project, will scale the technology to be 20 times greater than the first phase of the project.

Yingli Green Energy (YGE) Signs 6MW Italian Deal, Potential For 16 – 26MW

It was announced this morning that the Italian subsidiary of Yingli Green Energy (YGE) signed a 6MW solar module sales agreement with Tecno Spot for this year and Tecno has committed to another 10 – 20MW for 2011.
