GT Solar (SOLR) is seeing just a bit of positive pre-market action on news it has released new high performance ingot growth furnace for the solar industry providing 15% increased throughput, energy efficiency and higher quality. The new DSS450HP ingot furnace begin shipping this month and are expected to be installed at customer sites in May.

PG & E just announced that their new solar power program has been approved by the California Public Utilities Commission. The program involves constructing 500 MW of PV solar power systems, 250 MW of which will be owned by PG & E and 250MW of which will be owned by independent developers.
Macquerie is clearly frustrated with Canadian Solar (CSIQ) and has cut its rating from Outperform to Neutral following the company’s guidance last night in which they indicated a forex hit and a bit of a margin contraction. Canadian Solar (CSIQ) is out tightening the shipment guidance after the bell today from the previously expected 180 – 190MW range to 189 – 191MW, but is expecting an $18 – 20 million forex hit in the quarter due to the depreciation of the Euro against the US dollar. Trina Solar (TSL) is partnering with Enfinity of Belgium, a large renewable energy developer, to provide solar rooftop installations to the Belgian-European Pavilion and the Theme Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. The Belgian-Euro Pavilion will use about 700 Trina modules for the 160kW system.
JA Solar (JASO) raised guidance about two weeks ago and Evergreen Solar (ESLR) is out with preliminary results tonight, but the two companies still aren’t in the same league. ESLR is saying that 1st quarter shipments have increases to a new company record of about 35.4MW with revenues at about $78.5 million and an average selling price of $2.20/watt. A few more analyst calls this morning. Collins Stewart has downgraded shares of Canadian Solar (CSIQ) from Buy to Hold and has a $20 – 24 price target on it. They believe that while strong demand has led to a firming of module prices, but it’s so strong that its pulling up the prices of cells and wafers which may weigh on CSIQ margins. Suntech just announced that it has supplied the Town Hall building in Sydney, Australia, with a 48kW rooftop installation. The installation consists of 240 of Suntech’s advanced solar panels featuring Suntech’s new Pluto technology, which improves conversion efficiencies by 12%.
