Suntech (STP) Hooks Up First Chinese 10 MWQ Ground Mount Solar Power Project

Suntech just announced that is has connected the first 10 MW, ground mount solar power project to the Chinese power grid. The project, completed through collaboration with Suntech’s partner China Energy Conservation Investment Corporation (CECIC). This milestone represents the completion of the first phase of a larger, 50MW project that is expected to be finished in 2011.

Trina Solar (TSL) Extends Long Term Supply Agreement With GCL-Poly

Trina Solar (TSL) has announced this morning that it has extended its eight year supply agreement with GCL-Poly another five years, extending the supply deal through 2020.  GCL-Poly will supply Trina Solar with enough polysilicon and wafers to produce about 8500MW in solar modules over the next 13 years.

Piper Jaffray Maintains Underweight/Lowers Price Target On HOKU Despite Tianwei Rescue

Piper Jaffray is out maintaining its Underweight rating on Hoku Scientific (HOKU) and lowering the price target despite the Tianwei life preserver thrown last night.  The firm notes that while the company gains a strong partner and a new lease on life, the deal dilutes existing shareholders  and doesn’t complete eliminate the risks.  The Piper comment isn’t hurting shares this morning with the stock still up about 60%.… Read the rest

Hoku Scientific (HOKU) Gets A Chinese Bailout, Shares Soar

Hoku Scientific (HOKU) has been thrown a big Chinese life preserver and shares are soaring in after hours trading.  China’s Tianwei New Energy Holdings announced a definitive agreement after the bell today to convert $50 million in prepayments to Hoku into common stock and related warrants (giving the company 60% ownership), another $50 million in debt financing and a commitment to help Hoku obtain additional financing if needed.    Financing will be provided by Tianwei and … Read the rest

Applied Materials (AMAT) Gets Service Contract From Fujitsu Microelectronics

Applied Materials just announced that it has been granted a contract to service Fujitsu’s 300mm semiconductor factory in Mie, Japan. Under the contract, Applied Materials will service 100 chipmaking st ystems at the plant that use the company’s  Applied Performance Service(TM) solution. Applied Materials will also use Applied E3(TM) advanced equipment and process control technology to improve the efficiency and profitability of the plant as a whole.

NRG Energy (NRG) To Construct 10MW Solar Project For The City Of Houston

NRG Energy just announced that it has been chosen by the city of Houston to build and operate a 10 MW solar power installation, according to Reuters. The project will be constructed at NRG’s Wharton Generating Station using  First Solar’s PV modules.

Energy Focus, Inc just announced that it has inked a $3.1 million, two-year contract with the DuPont-University of Delaware Very High Efficiency Solar Cell (VHESC) Consortium to develop, cheap, high-efficiency solar modules.
