EMCORE (EMKR) Wins Contract With NASA

EMCORE Corporation has just announced that it has a contract with NASA to produce solar panels for NASA’s Global Precipitation Measurement spacecraft. The spacecraft will study precipitation (rain, snow and ice) around the world, and is scheduled to launch in 2013. According to , the stock is going up in price as a result of the $5 million contract, which is to managed by MEI Technologies, Inc. Shares are already up by 30% this morning.… Read the rest

Ascent Solar’s (ASTI) Monolithically Interconnected CIGS Module Is Bigger Than Yours

Ascent Solar just announced that they have manufactured a flexible, lightweight monolithically interconnected CIGS solar module on a polyimide substrate that is 5 meters long.  This is the longest monolithically interconnected CIGS module ever manufactured. It was created using equipment that is being tested for use in the 30MW manufacturing facility that Ascent Solar is currently constructing. When tested, it produced 123 watts of power at 9.1% aperture area efficiency.

First Solar (FSLR) Signs Supply Agreement With Lend Lease

First Solar and Lend Lease just announced that they have signed a new supply agreement. Under the contract, first Solar will supply Lend Lease with 10 MW worth of solar panels, starting right away. Lend Lease will use these panels in the construction of homes in Australia.

China Sunergy (CSUN) Expands Into Italy With Renergies Italia Contract

China Sunergy just scored a 53 MW sales framework agreement and a 3 MW sales contract with Italian solar module manufacturer Renergies Italia. The 53 MW sales framework agreement covers 6 years, but the agreement is not legally binding to either China Sunergy or Renergies Italia-the two companies will negotiate separate contracts that may total 53 MW over the next 6 years. Hoku Scientific (HOKU) Plunging 30% On Financing Concerns

NRG Energy (NRG) And eSolar To Build Solar Power Plant In New Mexico

NRG Energy and eSolar just announced that El Paso electric has contracted them to build a solar power plant in Dona Ana county in New Mexico. The plant will be constructed and owned by NRG, and built with eSolar’s solar thermal technology per the agreement the two companies entered in February.

Has Suntech Power (STP) Signed A 500MW Chinese Solar Deal?

I’m throwing this out there and if anyone has additional information to report feel free to post in the comments below.  There was a report in the WSJ today that Suntech Power (STP) may soon sign a big 500 MW China deal.  Apparently, a report by a local China media outlet was widely circulated that the Qinghai province has signed a 500 MW deal with Suntech.
