Yingli Green Energy (YGE), Netherlands & Amtech Systems (ASYS) Collaborate

Yingli Green Energy (YGE) is announcing a collaboration with the Energy Research Centre of Netherlands and Amtech Systems (ASYS) to develop and implement high efficiency N type silicon solar cells, named PANDA.  The solar cells will use Netherland’s designs, the solar diffusion technology and dry PSG removal expertise of Amtech and Yingli’s production line and cell process technology.

Piper Jaffray Reiterates Yingli Green Energy (YGE) Buy Rating

Last week, Lazard Capital and Collins Stewart upgraded and maintained their Buy ratings on Yingli Green Energy (YGE).  Today, it’s Piper Jaffray’s turn.  The firm reiterates its Buy rating on Yingli and is raising the price target from $13 to $17.

Applied Materials (AMAT) Releases New Charger PVD System

Applied Materials just announced the release of its new Charger PVD system, which can produce double the amount of wafers compared to competitor’s products.

From a company press release, here are the technical details of the system:

Applied Materials (AMAT) Gets Giant Solar Panels IEC Certified

Applied Materials just announced that its giant 5.7m2 solar photovoltaic (PV) modules have received certification from the International Electrotechnical Commission. The solar panels, produced as part of Applied Material’s Sunfab Thin Film line, are the largest available on the market today.

First Solar (FSLR) In Multi Year Deal With Pfalzsolar

Financial and term details aren’t available yet, but First Solar (FSLR) has announced this morning a multi year supply deal with German solar project developer Pfalzsolar.

“We are pleased to have gained Pfalzsolar as an additional customer in a key market at a key period for the evolution of solar electricity in Europe,” added John Carrington, executive vice president, global marketing & business development.

Ascent Solar (ASTI) Involved In Hybrid UAV Silent Sentinel

A couple days ago Ascent Solar (ASTI) announced its thin film solar PV modules will be used in the development of a hybrid unmanned aerial vehicle called the Silent Sentinel built by Bye Aerospace.  The high efficiency, quiet vehicle will be used primarily for military operations but could be included for civil use as well.

Trina Solar (TSL) Surges On Better Than Expected EPS, Improving Conditions

Trina Solar (TSL) is surging another 7% this morning after the company posted a profit of .33/share (taking out one time costs) vs the expectations of a .05 loss.  Revenues were a bit lighter than expected, but still 9% above the year ago quarter, so certainly better results out of Trina then what we’ve seen from most of its competitors (with the exception of First Solar).

Evergreen Solar (ESLR) Debuts New Campaign At Intersolar

Evergreen Solar is using the Intersolar industry trade show as an opportunity to roll out a new brand campaign. The campaign emphasizes the slogan "More Electricity, Less Impact"  to emphasize the fact that Evergreen Solar’s panels deliver the most energy with the lowest carbon footprint. Evergreen Solar will use the trade show to showcase its new ESA line of panels in this context.

Obama At Nellis Touts Solar, Geothermal (Video)

Prez Obama spoke at Nellis Air Force base today discussing the importance of renewable energy and announcing funding efforts for solar and geothermal.  Nellis Air Force base is home to the largest solar installation in the Western hemisphere and provides 25% of the electricity for the 12000 who live and work at the base, saving the military about $1 million a year.

China Sunergy (CSUN) Reports Steep Loss, Revenues Plunge 50%, But Stock Rises
