Clean Energy Fuels (CLNE) & Hertz (HTZ) Partner On CNG Fueling Facility At LAX

Clean Energy Fuels (CLNE) and Hertz (HTZ) announced an agreement yesterday to partner on a CNG fueling station on property adjacent to LAX airport.   The fueling station will be open 24/7 and provide public access (taxis and hotel transportation) as well as support the expanding CNG fleet of Hertz airport shuttle buses.  Construction is expected to begin this spring and open about six months later.  Hertz believes it can transition its entire LAX transit bus fleet to cleaner CNG power by 2015.  In the press release they tout CNG as “clean” and “green”..  hardly.  CNG is a good transition between petroleum fuel and an all electric/hybrid world, but hardly clean and green.

“This new Hertz partnership will allow Clean Energy to build a much needed second public fueling station at LAX, while providing fuel service to a premier rental car company in the United States,” said James Harger, Clean Energy Chief Marketing Officer. “The transition by the airport industry and allied services from diesel to natural gas fuel for ground transportation is accelerating rapidly, in response to the need to curtail emissions, decrease fuel costs, and reduce dependence on imported oil.”
