PG & E (PGC) Signs 290MW Solar Contract With Agua Caliente

Pacific Gas and Electric Company just announced that it will be adding 290MW of solar energy through contract with Agua Caliente, a subsidiary of NextLight Renewable Energy, LLC.  P G & E has been steadily adding solar power from independent developers as of late-this brings the total up to 830 MW.

The Agua Caliente project, to be located in Yuma County, Arizona, will provide electricity for more than 100,000 households in Northern and Central California, delivering 700 gigawatt-hours annually. It should be up and running by 2014.

Fong Wan, PG&E’s VP of procurement, commented on the deal on StreetInsider.com:

“In keeping with state policy and our own commitment to a cleaner energy future, we continue aggressively to pursue additional sources of renewable power. Our agreements with NextLight will help PG&E, and the state of California, show continued leadership in the development of solar power.”
