Appliance Recycling Centers of America just announced that their contract with Xcel Energy has been extended through the end of 2010.  Under the contract, Appliance Recycling Centers of America will provide refrigerator recycling services to Xcel’s customers. Xcel is offering a $35 incentive to each residential customer who disposes of an old refrigerator, in order to encourage them to trade old appliances in for new, more efficient ones.

In a press release, Edward R. (Jack) Cameron, ARCA’s President and Chief Executive Officer, commented on the news:

“We have enjoyed providing turnkey appliance recycling services for Xcel Energy and are extremely pleased that the program was extended into 2010. Xcel Energy’s Minnesota recycling program will be ARCA’s sixth utility-sponsored appliance recycling program in our home state of Minnesota. Together with Xcel Energy, we will help reduce residential electricity demand, lower customers’ energy bills and provide public environmental benefits in Colorado, New Mexico and Minnesota.”
