Clean Energy Fuels just announced that the LA Metro Transit Agency has awarded it contracts worth approximately $8.4 million. Per the agreements, over the next year and a half Clean Energy Fuels will upgrade CNG compressor equipment at 4 of Metro’s CNG fueling stations. The fueling stations in question are operated by Clean Energy Fuels.

A123 Systems (AONE) is getting a bit of a pop this morning after Lazard Capital said that Chrysler has confirmed it will use A123 Systems lithium batteries for its Fiat 500 electric cars which are expected to hit the US market in 2012. Ascent Solar just announced that it has been chosen by Cambrios Technologies to be a research partner for Cambrios’ contract from the U.S. Army’s Natick research facility. Under the contract, Cambrios, which has distinguished itself by developing unique, wet-processed, transparent conductive films, will look for ways to apply these films to copper-indium-gallium-selenium (CIGS) photovoltaics to create more efficient solar cells.

Soleil Securities reiterated its Sell rating on First Solar (FSLR) but back pedaled a bit saying they are raising their estimates and wouldn’t be short heading into earnings. FPL just announced that its new FPL’s Space Coast Next Generation Solar Energy Center has opened at Kennedy Space Center. The 10 MW facility consists of about 35,000 SunPower solar PV panels. SunPower designed and built the installation for FPL and NASA, who worked as partners on the project. Over the life of the panels, the center is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 227,000 tons.
