Buy or Sell? Analysts Weigh In on Sunpower (SPWRA)

The analysts are weighing in on Sunpower (SPWRA) following their earnings report and the analysis is across the board.  Citi is downgrading the stock to Sell and believes this is the last good quarter from the company for awhile!  Ouch.  Merrill Lynch is negative on SPWR as well, downgrading it from Buy to Neutral.

Evergreen Solar (ESLR) Reports Steep Loss, Wedbush Downgrades

Evergreen Solar (ESLR) is selling off more than 10% today after missing estimates and reporting losses in the latest quarter despite a 21% increase in revenue over the year ago quarter.  Analysts were expecting a 10 cent loss in the quarter, but ESLR missed badly reporting an .18/share loss.

GT Solar (SOLR) In Contract With Top Green Energy

GT Solar (SOLR) announced yesterday that it signed a 46.8 million contract with Taiwan based Top Green Energy.  The deal is the first with Top Green and the first with a company in Taiwan.

LDK Solar Gets 3 YR 90MW Supply Deal

LDK Solar (LDK) announced this morning a 3 year contract to supply solar wafers to an unnamed US energy company and will supply 90 MW beginning next year.  Financial terms were also not disclosed.

Yingli Green Energy (YGE) Will Supply 1.5 MW Of Photovoltaic Modules To Top Chinese Mobile Phone Carrier

Yingli Green Energy announced that a Chinese subsidiary, Tianwei Yingli, came out on top in bidding contest to supply photovoltaic products to China’s biggest cell phone company, China Mobile Communications Corp. Tianwei Yingli will supply the cell phone company with 1.5 MW worth of PV modules, over 31% of China Mobile Communications Corp’s latest PV purchases. Altair Nanotechnologies (ALTI) To Fill $54,000 Order For Hybrid Battery Packs From DesignLine International

Altair Nanotechnologies announced today that DesignLine International has placed an order for 4 of their hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) battery packs, at a total cost of $54,000. Altair will supply Designline International with the battery cells, assemble them into working battery modules, and train Designline International’s employees to assemble future products from Altair on their own. The initial 4 battery packs will be used on city transit buses and for a modular testing program.

Badger Meters (BMI) Reports Increased Profits But Still Performs Below Expectations

Badger Meters reported that its third-quarter income rose by 1.3 percent yesterday, as noted by the Business Journal. According to Badger Meter chairman, president and CEO Richard Meeusen, the disappointing result was caused by increased demands for Badger’s utility products and commercial water meters being balanced out by a slowing of demand for its industrial products.

Cree (CREE) And Zumtobel Team Up To Sell Cree LEDs In Europe

Cree just announced a deal with Zumbotel to sell Cree’s LED recessed lighting products in Europe. Zumbotel will sell the products under two brand names: Zumbotel and Thorn. In the first year, they intend to sell 50,000 units of the 230V version of Cree’s LR6 luminaire. Cypress Semiconductor (CY) Reports Earnings In Line, Beats On Revenues

Excluding one time items, Cypress Semi (CY) reported earnings in line with what analysts had expected at .30/share but beat analyst revenue estimates of 575 million by reporting revenues of 600 million, good for a 35% increase over the year ago quarter.  On a negative note, the company sees Q4 revenues and earnings decreasing more than the standard seasonal decline.

Sunpower (SPWRA) Beats Earnings Estimates By .04

Sunpower (SPWRA) reported very good results this morning.  Excluding one time items, earnings came in at .60/share vs. the analyst estimate of .56/share on a 61% increase in revenues over the year ago quarter to 377.5 million.  Analysts were expecting 350.4 million.  The company sees FY08 EPS at 2.34 – 2.41 vs the analyst estimates of 2.23 and for FY09 the company expects earnings of at least 3.50/share with analysts expecting 3.67.
