It’s sure been a rough few months for SemiLEDs (LEDS). The stock was crushed in January when the company reported earnings and weak guidance. SemiLEDs Corporation (LEDS) which is currently the top China LED play trading on a US exchange is getting hit hard today after reporting earnings. While the company reported big quarterly growth once again, guidance isn’t nearly as impressive and traders are heading for the exits.

Cree Inc just announced that it has signed an LED patent cross-license agreement with Koninklijke Philips Electronics NV.
The agreement is worldwide and covers a range of LED technologies including blue LED chip technology, white LEDs and phosphors. It also covers associated technologies such as control systems, LED luminaires and lamps, and LED backlighting for LCD screens.
In a press release, Chuck Swoboda, Cree chairman and CEO, commented on the agreement:
GE Lighting just announced that it has signed an licensing agreement with Rambus Inc. to use Rambus’ LED product designs and manufacturing knowledge to develop a flat-panel LED lighting system that can be used in architectural and commercial lighting.
PowerSecure just announced that it has acquired a majority interest in Innovative Electronic Solutions Lighting, LLC as part of an effort to further the growth of its EfficientLights LED lighting business. The acquisition will allow Powersecure to develop new products more effectively and get them out on the market faster.

Cree just announced that their high brightness LEDs are being used in the American Airlines Center’s high definition video screens. The screens, which are made by Lighthouse Technology, are used to deliver images (like instant replays and scores) at sporting events, concerts and other entertainment events held at the center.
In a press release, Paul Thieken, Cree director of marketing, LED components, commented on the news:
Cree just announced a new distribution agreement with Arrow Electronics. Under the agreement, Arrow will distribute Cree’s SiC Junction Barrier Schottky (JBS) products, including the 600-V Schottky diodes and the 1200-V Schottky diode line.

Cree just announced that they have been awarded $39 million in tax credits as part of the Recovery Act Advanced Energy Manufacturing program. The tax credits will allow Cree to expand their business and hire more employees. Cree applied for the tax credits in October 2009.

Cree just announced that its LED fixtures have been chosen to illuminate the National Air and Space Museum’s new “Moving Beyond Earth” exhibit. The museum selected Cree’s LR24 recessed LEDs for the exhibit, which contains exhibits on human spaceflight and space shuttles. Cree’s LEDs will replace high intensity discharge work lights.
