Renewable Energy Tax Credits Pass As Part of Bailout Bill

A quick update on a story we’ve been following: The bailout bill has passed both the House and the Senate, was signed into law by President Bush, and includes provisions to extend the tax credits for renewable energy. It’s difficult to overstate the importance of the tax credits for the renewable energy industry.

EnergySolutions, Inc (NYSE: ES) Takes Over Hanford’s Tank Operations Contract On Behalf Of Washington River Protection Solutions, LLC

Energy Solutions, Inc, a member of Washington River Protection Solutions, LLC, has officially taken over Hanford’s Tank Operations Contract. The tanks in question hold approximately 53 million gallons of radioactive chemical waste, and EnergySolutions will work with other partners in the LLC to maintain the tanks and start removing the waste. The 10-year contract is valued at $7.1 billion by the Department of Energy.

Hoku Solar (HOKU) Gets A DOT Contract In Hawaii

Hoku Solar, a subsidiary of Hoku Scientific (HOKU) announced a contract with the Hawaiian DOT to design, engineer and install 779 KW of photovoltaic power systems at airports in Lihue, Kahului, Kona and Hilo beginning later this year

Proterra To Showcase Hybrid-electric Transit Bus Using UQM Technologies’ (UQM) Engine In San Diego

UQM Technologies announced that Proterra LLC will showcase a prototype of Proterra’s its HFC 35 composite body, zero-emission, battery-dominant hybrid-electric transit bus at the American Public Transportation Exposition in San Diego. The bus is powered using UQM’s PowerPhase® 150 propulsion system. The HFC 35 can carry 37 passengers, and it will make it’s real-world debut as part of a nationwide trial sponsored by the FTA starting in 2009.

Soleil Slaps Buy Ratings On Suntech Power (STP) & LDK Solar (LDK)

Soleil Securities has initiated coverage on both Suntech Power (STP) and LDK Solar (LDK) with Buy ratings on both.  According to StreetInsider.com, Soleil had this to say on Suntech: 

“The prospect of strong earnings growth through ’09 is offset by our expectation of a sharp decline in photovoltaic industry pricing in 2011 which will lead to an equally sharp decline in earnings in 2012.”  Their price target is 41.

Canadian Solar (CSIQ) Reiterates Guidance & Announces Plant Progress

Canadian Solar (CSIQ) is reiterating its top-line revenue and gross margin guidance for 2008 of $850-$970 million and 13%-15%, respectively.  For 2009 the company is reiterating their shipment and gross margins guidance of 500 – 550 MW and 13 – 15% respectively.

American Superconductor Company (AMSC) Ships Superconductor Cable For Project Hydra

American Superconductor Company announced today that it has shipped approximately 56,000 feet of its second generation(2G) high-temperature superconductor (HTS) wire for use in Project HYDRA. Project HYDRA focuses on upgrading Manhattan’s power grid using AMSC’s Secure Super Grids(TM). The project heavily funded by the Department of Homeland Security, and AMSC is the prime contractor and the wire supplier.
