Kandi Technologies (KNDI) unveiled its new KD5011 electric car at a grand opening ceremony for Hangzhou’s first New Energy Vehicle Showroom on March 29th. The KD5011 is a government approved all electric car that improves upon earlier models with better range. The affordable vehicle (below $5k after government subsidies) in theory will be able to travel up to 150 miles on a single charge.
Raser Technologies just announced that it will be delivering the first of its extended range electric fleet trucks to PG&E next year. The electric trucks use a combination of lithium-ion batteries and an onboard, gasoline powered generator called a “range extender.”
Raser also plans to offer the E-REV powertrain used in these vehicles in popular GM and Ford trucks and SUVs.
NRG Energy just announced that it plans to offer an unlimited electric car charging plan to its Texas customers. Starting next year, Houston residents will be able to sign up for the plan, which will cost $60-80 per month and allow unlimited charging at home and at charging stations throughout the city. It also includes the cost of leasing a home charging station and emergency charging for drivers who get stranded.
Toshiba announced today it will begin construction to expand capacity at a plant in Houston, Texas and begin production on drive motors for Ford Motor (F) hybrid and electric cars the following year. The plant will be the first phase of production in the US for electric car drive propulsion systems which it currently manufacturers in Japan. UQM Technologies just announced that they have a one-year agreement with Electric Vehicles International LLC (EVI) to supply EVI with supply upgraded UQM(R) PowerPhase(R) 150kW electric propulsion systems. EVI plans to use the propulsion systems in their new all-electric medium-duty trucks and walk-in vans. The systems will be delivered between June and October of 2010.

UQM Technologies just announced that they have signed a 10-year agreement to provide UQM® PowerPhase®100 electric propulsion systems to Coda Automotive. Under the agreement, Coda will purchase 20,000 propulsion systems in the first two years, to be used in the company’s upcoming 4-door, 5-passenger, all-electric sedan. Aerovironment (AVAV) is pushing higher in after hours trading after beating both EPS and revenue estimates by a small margin. While EPS came in 10% lower than the year ago quarter, it did beat analyst estimates by a penny a share. Revenues increased 18% over the year ago quarter and also beat estimates (by about 5%). The Obama administration is announcing this morning that it’s providing billions to Ford, Nissan and Tesla Motors for the development of hybrid and electric vehicles.
