Suntech Power (STP) Has Plans To Triple US Business in 09

Suntech Power (STP), the large China solar company has plans to triple its US business in 2009 in a joint venture with MMA Renewable Ventures forming Gemini Solar Development LLC and plans to target projects greater than 10MW.  Suntech has also acquired EI Solutions, a Cali commercial system integration company that will target government, utilities and large commercials customers AND has expanded its US dealer network to increase penetration into residential and smaller commercial projects.  … Read the rest

Hoku Solar (HOKU) To Install Solar Power System On Xcel Building (XEL)

Xcel Energy has selected Hoku Solar to install a photovoltaic (PV) solar power system on Xcel’s headquarters in Oahu, Hawaii. Once the installation is completed, the 34 kilowatt PV system will generate 53,500 KW hours of energy each year. Over its lifetime, the system is expected to offset more than 885 tons of CO2 emissions.

GE Energy (GE) Catching A Breeze With Launch Of 2.5xl Wind Turbine In Europe

 

GE Energy announced that it has already received more than 1 GW worth of commitments to purchase its 2.5xl wind turbine over the next 18 months-enough to power 1 million households. Xcel Energy (XEL) To Set Up Midwest’s Largest Biomass Plant In Wisconsin

Xcel Energy announced that it is setting up a new biomass-fueled power plant in Ashland, Wisconsin. Rather than build from scratch, the company will convert an existing in plant in that location to run completely off of biomass. Once the project is complete, the plant will be the largest of its type in the Midwest,  using wood waste to produce enough electricity to power 40,000 homes. Capstone Turbine Co (NASDAQ:CPST) Receives Order For Three C1000 Microturbine Systems From Aquatec-Maxcon

Capstone Turbine Company reported that it has received a follow-on order worth $4.7 million for 3 C1000 Microturbine systems from Aquatec-Maxcon.  The turbines will be used by an Australian coal producer to power a water purification plant. The plant will use a reverse osmosis system to clean water polluted by coal production, leaving a finished product that’s safe to drink and can be sold to neighboring towns and villages. Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) Stops Work On Wichita Falls Wind Farm

Florida Power and Light Company announced it will cancel a 35,000 acre, 210 MW wind power project in Wilbarger County, TX, near Wichita Falls. The project was canceled due to the issues the country has been facing in financial markets as of late, as well as area limitations on the ability to transmit power once it’s generated.
