Following a press conference in Germany yesterday in which the solar industry and the Environment Minister outlined potential mid year feed-in-tariff cuts, Auriga posted its thoughts which I wanted to highlight for my readers. Cereplast (CERP) has signed a distribution deal with Euroink Romania providing bioplastic resins to the Romanian marketplace. Just a few days ago the company announced a distribution deal with BioWorks to supply the Polish market. Last September they signed a distribution deal with Sezersan Ambalaj to introduce bioplastics to the Turkish market, so the company continues its aggressive expansion in the European market.
China Intelligent Lighting (CIL) has announced it’s expanding its LED manufacturing operations, leasing a new 215K sq foot facility which opened yesterday. The facility will contain production lines, R&D and office space. Five new new production lines, one of which will be used for LED street lamp components, is expected to increase total capacity by up to 20% and be fully operational within a couple months.
American Superconductor (AMSC) announced it received several new orders for its D-VAR wind farm connection systems in the UK bringing the total number of wind farms using AMSC’s system to 15 in the UK. AMSC sold a record number of D-VAR systems in 2010, more than doubling its 2009 level. The D-VAR systems allow for voltage control and greater efficiencies within wind farms.
Cree Inc (CREE) posted earnings results after the bell today and it didn’t meet the continued lofty expectations of Wall St as traders sent the stock down more than 15%. The company reported a non GAAP EPS of .55/share on revenues of $257 million but that was shy of Wall St estimates of .58/share in EPS on revenues of $277 million. Shares of Ener1 (HEV) are soaring today after they announced a joint venture with China’s leading auto parts supplier to co-manufacture lithium cells and battery packs for the Chinese market. The joint venture with Wanxiang Electric called Zhejiang Wanxiang Ener1 Power System Co in which Wanxiang will have a 60% majority stake aims to produce 40,000 battery packs a year for electric cars by 2014.

It was announced today that Canadian Solar (CSIQ) was a solar module supplier for Europe’s largest solar plant constructed by MEMC Electronic Materials (WFR) subsidiary SunEdison. The 70MW plant is located near the town of Rovigo in Italy and is expected to power more than 16500 homes.
