Itron (ITR) Teams Up With RuggedCom On Smart Grid

Itron just announced a new partnership with Ruggedcom to help both companies increase their smart-grid related business. Under the agreement, Ruggedcom’s RuggedMAX product will be integrated into Itron’s OpenWay smart metering product to provide utilities with an extra WiMAX backhaul communications option.

PowerSecure (POWR) Wins $30 Million Award From Major Utility

PowerSecure just announced that it has been chosen to provide its infrastructure services to a large US utility, a contract worth approximately $30 million over the next three years. Yingli Green Energy (YGE) Beats As Margins Hit Record, Reaffirms Guidance

Yingli Green Energy (YGE) was out with strong earnings results this morning, beating Wall St estimates in the process.  The company reported a non GAAP EPS of .23 on revenues of $358.9 million.  That beat analyst estimates by .01 and $5 million respectively and represents a 146% revenue increase over the year ago quarter.  Gross margins hit a new record at 33.3%.

Applied Materials (AMAT) Launches Applied SmartFactory Advanced Automation Software

Auriga Slashes China Solar Price Targets (CSIQ, JASO, SOLF, TSL, STP); Upgrades First Solar (FSLR) To Buy

SunEdison (WFR) Leasing Space From Weingarten Realty Investors

SunEdison, a subsidiary of MEMC Electronic Materials, just announced a new agreement with Weingarten Realty Investors to lease space on their unused rooftops for up to 10 MW worth of PV solar installations. Weingarten Realty will then purchase the energy produced by the systems at below-retail rates, or will allow their tenants to do so.

MEMC Electronic Materials (WFR) To Acquire Solaicx

MEMC Electronic Materials just announced that it will be acquiring Solaicx, a company that has developed a patented continuous crystal growth manufacturing technology. This technology enables solar companies to produce more efficient monocrystalline silicon wafers at a low cost.

Credit Suisse Cuts Price Targets Of Solar Stocks: TSL, FSLR, STP, SPWRA, JASO

Credit Suisse demonstrates once again why analyst estimates and ratings are for the most part worthless.  Rarely are analysts ahead of the curve and Credit Suisse is no exception.  They are out this morning maintaining their Neutral and Outperform ratings, but cutting price targets well after these stocks have plummeted to new lows.  I believe solar stocks are close to bottoming out, based on some minor capitulation moves seen yesterday.  Many are ripping higher again … Read the rest

Toyota (TM) Invests $50 Million In Tesla Motors To Produce Electric Sedan

Toyota Motors (TM) and Tesla Motors announced this morning that they are partnering to produce Tesla electric cars in a recently closed Toyota/GM plant in Fremont, California.  The plant was closed just a few weeks ago, taking 4,700 jobs with it, but reviving the plant is good news at least for a portion of the workers.  When production begins in 2012, about 1000 workers will be needed.

Solar Stocks See Green In A Sea Red: TSL, SPWRA, CSIQ, YGE, STP

No doubt today’s action was ugly if you were on the long side of the trade and taking a look at the Up & Down Movers at the left tells the story.  That’s a might lengthy list of green stocks down with heavy volume today, but there were bright spots provided in some solar stocks.
