Echelon (ELON) came close to posting its first profitable quarter in about five years and beat Wall St estimates by a good margin after the bell today, but the stock continues to get battered after hours after the company guided much lower for next quarter. The company reported a non GAAP EPS of zero while analysts expected a loss of .17/share. Revenues came in ahead of estimates as well at $38.8 million (vs estimates of … Read the rest

TheStreet.com: "Smart Grid Not A Smart Investment"
I was just perusing the blogosphere for the latest news in the green energy space to get other view points, keep up to date with what’s going on and possibly pin point some investment ideas I haven’t thought of. I don’t think I’ll be using the TheStreet.com as a source of good info. I came across a post at TheStreet.com calling smart grid investments “not so smart”. I had to read it twice to make … Read the rest

More Smart Grid Analyst Calls: Itron (ITRI) A Buy, Echelon (ELON) At Outperform
I missed the Itron (ITRI) Buy rating from Brean Murray and should have included it in the last post along with the other smart grid calls. The firm has initiated this smart grid leader with a Buy rating and 12 month price target of $65/share. Despite delays in the federal stimulus rollout, they still believe the company is on track for solid growth in 2010.
Itron has begun to show some life and is now … Read the rest

Echelon (ELON) was a bit slow in releasing this news today or they just didn’t coordinate it well with Telvent (TLVT). At any rate, the Fortum smart grid deal is yet another big win for Echelon (ELON) and cements them as a significant player in the smart grid arena. The press release indicates it will provide ELON with $50 – 60 million (so about 20 mill/year beginning in 2011) over the life of the project … Read the rest
