We’ve seen Cisco making a big push into the smart grid space with recent software purchases, Google wants a piece and you can expect Microsoft to say “me too” as well just as it does with every other product it launches. It was announced a couple days ago that Microsoft will team up with Telvent to create more efficient smart grid solutions for the utility industry.

A few analyst ratings notes to tell you about this morning…

We’re almost exactly one month removed from Cramer’s bullish call on Telvent (TLVT) touting it as a great speculative play. In that post I mentioned the call was irresponsible after such a torrid run and a quick read of the technicals would have indicated that distribution was coming in, a topping signal. The stock was ripe for a correction, possibly a steep one. The stock is down 30% since that call was made. Granted, we … Read the rest
Jim Cramer has a good history of recommending stocks that are well overbought and he’s adding another one. Last night on his Mad Money show he recommended a few smart grid plays – Itron (ITRI), Cooper Industries (CBE) and Telvent (TLVT). I have long highlighted ITRI as the best and safest way to play the smart grid long term and it remains in a firm up trend. CBE is an interesting pick and one that … Read the rest
I was just perusing the blogosphere for the latest news in the green energy space to get other view points, keep up to date with what’s going on and possibly pin point some investment ideas I haven’t thought of. I don’t think I’ll be using the TheStreet.com as a source of good info. I came across a post at TheStreet.com calling smart grid investments “not so smart”. I had to read it twice to make … Read the rest
Echelon (ELON) was a bit slow in releasing this news today or they just didn’t coordinate it well with Telvent (TLVT). At any rate, the Fortum smart grid deal is yet another big win for Echelon (ELON) and cements them as a significant player in the smart grid arena. The press release indicates it will provide ELON with $50 – 60 million (so about 20 mill/year beginning in 2011) over the life of the project … Read the rest
Echelon (ELON) is surging nearly 20% today with big volume. The reason isn’t completely obvious because the company hasn’t issued a press release, but the reason the stock is moving is probably the result of Spain based Telvent integrating its smart grid solution with Echelon’s (ELON) for a big Finnish project with a cost of over $150 million.
According to Telvent’s release, they will be in charge of the design and development of a smart … Read the rest
