Veeco Instruments (VECO) Surging On News Elec-Tech Will Use For 2 LED Plants

On July 19th, I passed along the post at Notable Calls saying that UBS was expecting a big LED order for both Veeco Instruments (VECO) and Aixtron (AIXG) from Elec-Tech.  This morning, Veeco is confirming a large order from Elec-Tech  for 130 of its TurboDisc K465i Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition, or MOCVD, systems as their “tool of choice” for two new LED factories in Wuhu and Yangzhou, China. Cree Inc (CREE) Reports Strong Quarter, Mixed Guidance, Shares Down 10%

Cree, Inc. (CREE) reported results after the bell today that were a touch better than analyst estimates.  The EPS came in at .55 vs the analyst estimate of .51 on revenues of $265 million vs the analyst estimate of $264 million.  While those are record numbers and represent growth both sequentially and quarter over quarter, traders always want to what guidance will be especially when a stock is run so far so fast.  I’ve said … Read the rest

GT Solar (SOLR) Adds LED Manufacturing With Purchase Of Crystal Systems

GT Solar (SOLR) has made a very interesting move this morning.  The company is diversifying its manufacturing operations and adding LED manufacturing to its solar ingot manufacturing business.  Smart move.  They purchased privately held Crystal Systems of Salem, MA which manufacturers large area sapphire substrates used in LED lighting, defense, medical and aerospace industries.

Veeco Instruments (VECO) Ships LED Manufacturing Systems To Invenlux

Veeco Instruments (VECO) has shipped several TurboDisc MOCVD systems to US based LED manufacturer Invenlux in order to ramp capacity at their China LED factory in Haiyan City.  No word on the financials of the deal.

Florida Performing Arts Center Uses Nexxus Lighting (NEXS) Array LED Lamps

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Ft Lauderdale, FL has replaced all incandescent lighting with more energy efficient LED lighting using Nexxus Lighting Array LED lamps according to a press release today.  Array LED lamps are fully dimmable on most incandescent dimmer switches and provide up to 80% energy savings.

Applied Materials (AMAT) Exiting Thin Film Solar Biz To Focus On Silcon Solar, LED Lighting

Taiwan LED Manufacturer Chooses Veeco Instruments (VECO) Technology

Arima Optoelectronics, an LED manufacturer in Taiwan, purchased several Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) Systems last quarter according to a press release this morning.  The two companies have worked together in the past and this expands their relationship.  No word on the financials of this deal.

Rubicon Technology (RBCN) Insider Selling: CEO, CFO Liquidate Entire Position

Just days ago Rubicon Technology (RBCN) closed on a public offering of more than 3 million shares, raising around $62 million.  In that offering, 834,000 shares were sold to the public by “selling stockholders” as indicated in the press release.  We know now that those selling stockholders include the CEO and CFO according to InsiderCow.com, both of which liquidated their entire position.
