Within the past week, Vestas Wind Systems has received several large orders for its wind turbines from Chinese companies. First, the company announced that it had received an order from China Guangdong Nuclear Wind Power. Vesta has supplied China Guangdong Nuclear Wind Power with wind turbines in the past. This time, the company ordered 116 turbines, capable of producing 100 MW of wind power. Including this order, Vestas will deliver 500MW worth of wind turbines to China Guangdong Nuclear Wind Power in 2009.
2 days later, on December 31, Vestas announced that it had received 2 more orders totaling 100 MW from China. The company stated that
"Vestas has received another two orders with a total capacity of 100 MW to be delivered to two wind power projects in China. Delivery of the turbines for both projects is planned for the third quarter of 2009," it said, adding that its customers had requested that it not disclose details about the projects’ owners or locations.
Lars Anderson, head of Vestas’ China division, commented on the contracts:
"As of June 30, 2008, Vestas had delivered more than 1,000 turbines to China and we continue to have high expectations for the growing Chinese market."
