Itron (ITRI) & Cisco (CSCO) To Collaborate On Smart Grid Network Technology

General Electric (GE) Acquires Energy Control Systems To Enhance Smart Grid Offerings

General Electric announced this morning that it has acquired SNC-Lavalin’s Energy Control Systems business as well as its network management and control software. Energy Control Systems’ software is used to improve the efficiency and reliability of the electric power grid, so this acquisition will enhance GE’s smart grid-related offerings.

PowerSecure (POWR) Snags 10M In New Business

PowerSecure just announced that it has received $10 million worth of  new orders for its Interactive Distributed Generation smart grid power systems and utility infrastructure projects. The contracts include a contract with a major retailer that will provide recurring revenue, along with contracts to install Interactive Distributed Generation systems in data centers, hospitals, municipal buildings, and manufacturing facilities.

Echelon (ELON) & Convergys (CVG) Partner To Develop Smart Grid Billing Solutions

Echelon (ELON) and Convergys (CVG) have announced a collaboration to develop next generation billing solutions for the smart grid.  The goal is to allow customers to pass energy usage data from Echelon’s real time system to Convergys real time customer relationship and billing system so they can see how much they’re spending in real time, allowing them to make adjustments for greater energy efficiency.

Ener1 (HEV) Signs MOU With Russian Federal Grid Company

Ener1 just announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Russia’s Federal Grid Company.  Per the MOU, the two companies will work together to develop high-performance battery systems to help support Russia’s aging grid, which is expected to experience unprecedented demand in the years to come.

The MOU is part of a $15 billion effort by Federal Grid Company to modernize its power grid.
