Itron (ITRI) & Tendril Partner on Smart Grid Expansion

Two leading players in the smart grid industry, Tendril and Itron (ITRI) have announced a partnership that will extend the reach of the Tendril Residential Energy Ecosystem (TREE) and provide seamless integratoin over Intron’s OpenWay.  Tendril will tap into Itron’s experienced sales force which will resell the TREE energy management system to utilities and energy retailers nationwide.

American Superconductor (AMSC) Beats, Narrows Guidance

American Superconductor (AMSC) is up just a bit this morning after reporting a smaller loss than expected.  The company reported a loss of .18/share (matches the year ago quarter) in the quarter vs estimates of a .20/share loss on revenues that were slightly higher than expected at 41.3 million (a 27% increase over the year ago quarters).  Not exactly a great quarter but not awful either.

Comverge (COMV) Releases New Smart Grid Demand Response System

Comverge just announced the release of its new smart grid demand response system, the Apollo(R) Demand Response Management System. The Apollo can manage both commercial and residential energy needs as well as demand produced by charging plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles. This platform will be used in the Progress Energy Carolina EnergyWise(TM) project and by PEPCO Holdings. Robert M. National Grid Places D-VAR Order With American Superconductor Corporation (AMSC)

National Grid, the company that manages power in Long Island, New York, for American Superconductor Corporation’s D-VAR Statcom service. This Smart Grid service will help maintain the efficiency and reliability of Long Island’s electrical grid. Under the agreement, AMSC will install the D-VAR Statcom service for National Grid by 2010.

About the D-VAR Statcom service:

D-VAR dynamic reactive compensation systems are classified as Static Compensators, or “STATCOMs,” a member of the FACTS (Flexible AC-Transmission System)

Google Announces Clean Energy Partnership with GE (GOOG; GE)

 

Google announced yesterday that the company is partnering with GE to make clean energy solutions available for consumers. Through this partnership, Google and GE will try to improve the existing electric infrastructure, focusing on creating a "smart grid" through upgrading power generation, distribution and transmission. The companies will also collaborate on advanced energy technologies, including charging for plug-in cars and geothermal.
