Aerovironment (AVAV) To Supply "Quick Charging" System For THINK Electric Vehicles

THINK City just announced that it will be working with Aerovironment to create a new fast-charge system for the Think City Electric vehicle. The goal? 80% charge in 15 minutes! This would address one key weakness of electric cars-long charging times that put the vehicles out of commission for hours once you’ve used up all the juice.

EMCORE (EMKR) Gets $10 Millionish Solar Space Deal From ATK Space Systems

EMCORE (EMKR) is winning an increasing number of solar panel contracts to be used in spacecraft and it got another one today.  The company announced a $9 – 11 million deal to provide solar panels for ATK Space Systems UltraFlex solar arrays to be used in the Orion spacecraft being developed by Lockheed Martin for NASA.  The initial contract is for two vehicles, but could be expanded.

FPL Group (FPL) Halts Streak Of Revenue Growth.. Blame It On El Nino

FPL Group (FPL) beat Wall St estimates this morning, posting .79/share, but the positives stop there.  Quarter over quarter revenue growth came to a halt for the the first time in a few years with a 12% decrease over the year ago quarter.  Earnings also decreased from the year ago quarter.. by 9%.

Quantum Fuel (QTWW) Beats, Success Will Be Tied To Fisker

Quantum Fuel Systems (QTWW) reported earnings results after the bell yesterday, beating Wall ST estimates on both the EPS and revenue side with a loss of .03/share on revenues of $6.2 million.  Analysts had expected  a .07/share loss.  Revenues slipped 35% over the year ago quarter which the company attributed to the end of a supply contract with GM for hydrogen fuel storage systems.  However, the company continues to trim its losses as cost reduction … Read the rest

Energy Focus (EFOI) Receives $1.6 Million In Grants For LED Lighting

Energy Focus (EFOI) has received 3 grants totaling $1.6 million  this morning for its LED lighting solutions.  The R&D team won two Phase 2 Small Biz Innovation Research awards from the Defense Research Projects Agency and one Phase 1 Small Biz Technology Transfer grant from NASA

Jefferies Out With Solar Upgrades: SPWRA, STP, SOLF, CSUN

According to StreetInsider.com, Jefferies is out with several solar upgrades following the two week plunge. 

SunPower (SPWRA) upgraded from Hold to Buy, but price target lowered from $30 to $29. Shares are up 2.5% to $21.75 this morning. Shares are up about 3% in premarket trading.

Suntech (STP) upgraded from Underperform to Hold with a $12 target. Shares are basically flat in premarket trading.

American Superconductor (AMSC) Gets Order For 100 Sets Of Wind Turbine Electrical Stuff

American Superconductor (AMSC) received an order for a fair amount of stuff this morning.  Stuff, specifically meaning 100 sets of wind turbine electrical components to be used in 2MW turbines by China’s XJ Group power.  The company is ramping up production and now has an annual capacity of 1000MW, making them the 3rd AMSC customer to enter volume production of advanced wind turbines in China.  Considering XJ Group’s parent company State Grid supplies power … Read the rest

Clean Energy Fuels (CLNE) Gets 10 Year Supply Contract With Dallas-Fort Worth Airport

Clean Energy Fuels just announced that it has been given a 10 year supply contract from the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. Under the agreement, Clean Energy Fuels will build and operate a CNG fueling station for the airport’s new fleet of CNG-powered shuttle buses.
