Trinity Industries (TRN) reported awful earnings after the bell today but you wouldn’t know it by looking at the press release headline: Trinity Reports Solid 4th Quarter Results. You wouldn’t know it by reading the comments of the CEO either: “Our fourth quarter results demonstrated the positive aspects of the diversification of our portfolio of businesses during a tough economy.” Oh yeah?
EnerNOC (ENOC), energy efficiency extraordinaire looking for it’s first profitable year (and still looking), posted a loss that was considerably smaller than what analysts had expected but greater than the year ago period after the bell today. The company posted a non GAAP loss of .45/share which was .21/share better than expectations on revenues of $19.7 (flat from a year ago)

Itron (ITRI), the “Microsoft of smart metering” is likely to be a big winner in the coming years as the Obama administration pushes for greater efficiencies but for now growth continues to deteriorate. Earlier this week, MEMC Electronic Materials announced it would decrease the price that Suntech Power Holdings is paying for its solar wafers. Now, they have changed their contract with Gintech Energy as well. The change in the contract is similar to the change made to Suntech’s contract-price per wafer is dropping, but the volume of wafers will be increased so that the ultimate revenue from the contract remains unchanged.
The purchase of a minority stake in Asia Silicon. The company paid $8.1 million to one of Suntech’s existing shareholders to buy a stake in the company. Suntech already has a supply agreement with Asia Silicon to buy up to $1.5 billion worth of high-grade polysilicon from Asia Silicon over the next years.
Zhengrong Shi, Suntech’s chairman and CEO, commented on the deal:

SunPower just announced the completion of Australia’s largest rooftop solar installation. The installation consists of 350 KW worth of solar panels mounted on the roof of the Crowne Plaza Hotel rooftop in Alice Springs.
Bob Blakiston, SunPower Australia’s managing director, commented on the accomplishment:

General Electric is considering building a wind farm in the Mirkovo region of Bulgaria. Recently, country’s Economy and Energy Minister met with GM’s Project Manager of GE Infrastructure-Energy to discuss the region’s suitability for wind power generation.
