UQM Technologies (UQM) Reported First Quarter Results, Surges

UQM Technologies (UQM) reported 1Q results last week and surged more than 10% on Friday right up to resistance of the 200 day moving average.  The company reported an EPS loss of .04/share as compared with a loss of .05/share in the year ago quarter on revenues that were up 23% over the year ago quarter.

SDG&E Chooses Itron’s Smart Meters

Itron Inc. (ITRI) has reached an agreement with San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) to replace or upgrade the utility’s 2.3 million electric and gas meters with Itron OpenWay technology for its smart meter initiative.

Hoku Scientific (HOKU) Signs $300 Million Polysilicon Deal

Hoku Scientific (HOKU) ramped up 15% today and above the 50 day moving average on news of a big supply deal for solar grade polysilicon.  HOKU will supply China based Kinko Energy with solar grade polysilicon over a 10 year period beginning in late 2009 with a value of approximately 300 million.  The contract calls for an initial $10 million payment to HOKU and additional prepayments of 20 and 25 million over the next … Read the rest

Trinity (TRN) Smashes EPS Estimates, Up After Hours

Trinity Industries (TRN) who has a wind tower business that generates about 10% of revenues reported strong results after the bell today, posting earnings of 1.06/share which smashed estimates of .83/share.  Revenues came in below estimates at 945.5 million (about 20 million below) but shares are up after hours anyway on that EPS number.

Andersons (ANDE) Raised Full Year Guidance

Andersons (ANDE) has raised its full year 2008 guidance to the range of 5.00 – 5.40 up from previous estimates of 4.40 – 4.80 just announced in June.  This is a big bump in such a short time.. very impressive.  The Street consensus is 4.61 EPS.  The increase in primarily attributed to the Plant Nutrient Groups performance.  Expect the stock to pop up above important resistance of the 200 day moving average tomorrow. … Read the rest

First Solar (FSLR) Blows Out Estimates, Surges After Hours

First Solar (FSLR) blew away lofty estimates after the bell today and the stock surged nearly 10% after hours.  ClusterStock has a great live analysis of the earnings.

EPS came in at .85 vs the estimate of .58 while revenue was equally impressive at 267 million vs estimates that called for 217 million.  Gross margins also surged to more than 54%.

Kaydon (KDN) Beats Street But Outlook Cautious

Kaydon (KDN), the ball bearings maker (play on wind energy) posted better than expected quarterly profits on strong sales helped by growth in the wind market but its full year outlook was cautious sending the shares down more than 12% and slicing through its 200 day moving average.

Trina Solar (TSL) & Suntech (STP) Sign Deals With Enel of Italy

The Economist.com reported that trading water would help alleviate water shortages.   With water consumption doubling every 20 years, according to Goldman Sachs, lack of water could prove to be a bigger threat to mankind than rising food prices or the depletion of energy resources.
